Hi,

Can someone tell me which is a correct trailer hitch wiring "package" I need to buy. The SantaFe comes with the tow package, has the connectors underneath (rear left).

I was looking at several that say are for the 2012 SF.

Tow Ready 118258 OEM Wiring Harness
CURT 56152 T-Connector
CURT 56078 T-Connector

The first one doesn't come with a converter it seems, but I can't really find clear info on this.

As a side note, my old Jeep had a 6pin connector on the hitch (factory); does that mean that it can also control brakes on a trailer? I read that in order to do this with the SF you need to buy a brake controller and custom wire it.

I couldn't see an option to add a 6pin connector to the SF wiring. A week ago I rented a trailer from HomeDepot and it only had the 6pin round connector, not the flat, if I wanted to tow that I couldn't with the 4pin flat connector it seems.

Sorry, couldn't find a sticky on this.

TIA!

What does the CURT website say for it. They had wiring kits for mine.

It's the bottom two, just unclear as to the difference. Also no option for a 6pin round, all these are for 4pin flat.

As you have the tow package (factory wired to the rear area). The CURT 56152 T-Connector is the harness which would plug into it and you get the flat four typical connection. If you need one of the other outputs used with electric brakes etc. Then this flat four is either plugged into an adaptable. You can see the vehicle side wiring hear for example. I suspect the other connectors are not offered as default exist due to the tow weight limit of the vehicle. Although the flat four can easily be cut off and the standard big 7 pin can be installed as well as a brake controller wired to it.

I installed the Curt connector on my Santa Fe. I noticed that when the trailer was hooked up with the car off - the LED lights on the trailer would glow faintly. Evidently there was still some power to the connector. I replaced it with a Hidden Hitch 118258 when the Curt converter died on me and that problem went away.

I am seeing this on Amazon.ca, but the picture seems to be inaccurate I think.

Not sure if that's the case or not. Other pictures/descriptions on other sites show it different and mention that there is a modulite module...

like here:

https://www.hitchweb.com/product/88/118258/T-Connector-Hyundai-Santa-Fe

Custom designed to fit with Hyundai Santa Fe
Vehicle must come factory wired
Physical Weight: 0.1 lbs.
Exact replacement for damaged factory wiring harnesses
Installs in seconds on vehicle not factory pre-wired
Upgrades vehicle from 4-way flat to 6 or 7-way connectors
Connects directly to standard factory connector

Just don't understand some of the points in the description like "Upgrades vehicle from 4-way flat to 6 or 7-way connectors"

6 and 7 pin require cutting and rewire to the other plug. Those are only used for trailers having it so you don't see anything other than a 4 made with the converter!! Remember this is only for lights. Battery charging and e-brakes to your trailer are independently wired and meet at the plug for passage. As for the other Curt kit its for non oem equipped harness and has ends to tap into the lighting plugs at the L/R tail lights. Not as clean a solution.
